Outfield, deep, country

Technically speaking the outfield - otherwise known as the deep, the deep-field or, in some parts of the world, the paddock - is the entire playing area other than the pitch itself. In practice the term is taken to mean the more distant areas of the ground outside the inner ring of fielders - the slips, gully, short leg, and so on
