The International Institute of Cricket Umpiring & Scoring announces the commencement of the first scoring course.

Last Thursday evening 15 learners attended Bootle Cricket Club on Merseyside for the first week of a Beginners' Course in scoring. The course leader John Fielden, expressed delight at the 'marvellous turn-out' for the inaugural course and hoped this would be the 'fore-runner of many similar ventures'.

The course consists of 3 sections
  • Introduction to scoring procedures and symbols used, equipment required and scorebook entries
  • Umpires' signals and further scorebook entries
  • Scoring part of a match
The scorebook entries are demonstrated with the aid of inter-active computer visuals.

The Unique Selling Point of this course is the fact that the club can hold the event during the summer months when their members are readily available and they can score an actual match.

It is hoped other clubs will show an interest in this new venture and John can be contacted for advice at scorers@umpires.tv.
